Let's Talk Finances and Romantic Relationships!

My father had a saying growing up "No romance without finance!"

A saying I live by, but what does the saying mean exactly? I believe it to mean that financial stability plays a significant role in relationships.

I strongly believe that once you have both agreed to be in a relationship, before you agree to move in, marriage, have a child, make a huge purchase together, etc., there should be a conversation regarding credit and finances.

You can tell a lot about a persons character by the choice they make when it comes to credit and how they manage their money.

Many people want to feel secure in a relationship outside of mindset and physical attributes, they want financial stability. Financial stability comes with being able to afford dates, traveling, purchasing a home together, or creating a business together.

The sky is the limit when you form a partnership with the one you love! What works for some relationships might not work for yours. That's why communication is key in any relationship. Conversations regarding building each other's credit and combining incomes need to be had before getting serious. If it's agreed that one stays home while the other works, then find other ways to contribute in you relationship. Be the credit and let your partner be the income! Relationships should never be about who makes more money, or turn into a competition! It should be about bringing the best out of each other and building each other up.

Financial Issues are a common source of stress and conflict in relationships. Without managing each other's finances well, romance may suffer due to arguments and added on stress related to money.

Money is a huge topic but it shouldn't be the only factor in a relationship. While working together financially is important, maintaining some level of financial independence is healthy for all couples. This allows each partner to have personal spending freedom
